**Description** This is a good introduction to the basic components of linear accelerators in radiation therapy. This third edition includes critical and essential chapters on image guidance.
**Purpose** The aim is to promote an understanding of the basic components and theory of linear accelerators. The objectives are met primarily.
**Audience** According to the authors, the audience is students of radiation therapy, radiological physics, radiation oncology, and radiation control. The book is helpful for therapists, dosimetrists, and physicians, as well as persons new to radiation therapy. It's good for new students to begin with, and could be used as a review for residents or medical physicists.
**Features** The basic theory and almost all components of linear accelerators in radiation therapy are covered. The strong point of the book lies in the clear explanations with concise sentences and sufficient illustrations. It would be more comprehensive if it included a few more components, such as thyratron, a figure of 90 degree bending magnet, MLCs, etc. Shielding should be included too.
**Assessment** In general, this book is well written and updated with the latest imaging components. It serves best as an entry level introduction for people new to this field, or a review for people in radiation oncology already.
