Review of the First Edition:
"Shielding of facilities is of utmost importance in radiotherapy where high radiation doses are delivered to many patients every day. McGinley has contributed significantly to the topic and provides a comprehensive treatment of external beam radiotherapy shielding including a very useful section on neutrons generated from high-energy accelerators. The value of the publication is enhanced by many practical examples and problems (without answers). The underlying philosophy of radiation safety is not discussed and unfortunately brachytherapy is only dealt with briefly. However, in the context of the enormous costs of shielding in radiation oncology the book is a worthwhile investment .
